To settle their difference, the brothers in 1984 dissolved the family business, Field Enterprises, and sold the Sun-Times to Australian publisher Rupert Murdoch. Marshall V then took over the publishing empire in conjunction with a half-brother, Frederick, who grew up in Alaska and had no passion for Chicago, the newspaper business or, for that matter, Marshall.
